Case studies on environmental management

Coronation Pillar  is situated in a park located at Burari Road near Nirankari Sarovar (Formless Lake) in Delhi. It was the venue of the Delhi Durbar of 1877 when Queen Victoria was proclaimed the Empress of India. Later it was used to celebrate the accession of King Edward VII in 1903, and, finally, it was here that the Durbar commemorating the coronation of King George V as Emperor of India took place on 12 December 1911. First Durbar, initiated by Lord Lytton (1831–1891), the then Viceroy of India, was held on 1 January 1877 at the Coronation Park in Delhi to mark the proclamation of Queen Victoria as Empress of India. They decided to make capital head quarters near by this pillar but it was abandoned due to mosquito genic and malaria genic conditions and chosen new area which was healthy site and well drained without water logging and less malriogenic conditions at present near Raisina hills (At present Parliament building and President estate) .
